NEW MegaMillions: Bigger Jackpots, More Millionaires!

MegaMillions has announced a series of rule changes designed to guarantee bigger jackpots and create more millionaires. Read on to find out what your MegaMillions jackpots will be worth from the next draw onwards.

Minimum MegaMillions jackpot increased to € 34 million

Here’s a rule change we’re glad to welcome!

The minimum MegaMillions jackpot has been increased to $40 million (that’s about € 34 million, per the rate of exchange on October 27th 2017). This will be the lowest possible jackpot in MegaMillions from here on in, with much larger jackpots available in the event of rollovers.

Previously, the minimum MegaMillions jackpot stood at the significantly lower figure of $15 million.

New numbers in the mix

MegaMillions players will now have fewer regular numbers to choose from, but more Mega Balls.

The main draw will feature numbers 1-70, whilst the Mega Ball will be chosen from 1-25.

This is how your new MegaMillions selections might look.

Previously, MegaMillions players picked their numbers from 1-75, plus 1-15 for the Mega Ball.

The new setup will provide a 1-in-24 chance of winning a prize with every MegaMillions line you play. It is also expected that jackpots will build quicker in the event of rollovers, which will likely lead to a higher average jackpot value.

Bigger second-tier prizes, more millionaires

Jackpot winners aren’t the only people likely to do well out of the MegaMillions reboot – smaller-scale winners are likely to benefit too.

Second-tier prizes are due to become both larger and easier to win, which means MegaMillions is likely to give out seven-figure prizes more often. To be precise, the odds on winning a second-tier prize have improved from 1-in-18-million to 1-in-12-million.

Ticket prices

MegaMillions ticket prices are set to increase, in order to fund the other changes taking place. This means our bet prices will be increased by a proportionate amount.

Nobody likes a price hike, but in this case, we think there are some clear benefits. Most notably, you’ll be playing for bigger prizes, and you’ll have a better chance than ever before of becoming a MegaMillions millionaire.

When do the new rules take effect?

The first MegaMillions draw under the new rules takes place on Tuesday 31st October.

We believe this huge transformation is going to reignite the race for the world record lottery jackpot. In 2015, another American lottery, Powerball implemented a series of rule changes that led to the world’s first ever billion-euro jackpot, early the following year. Now MegaMillions is doing exactly the same.

MegaMillions President, Debbie D. Alford, released the following statement on the rule changes:

“We have a demand for innovation to keep fresh, entertaining lottery games and to deliver the attention-grabbing jackpots.

“We’re excited to deliver the opportunity to create more millionaires, and also provide more opportunities to raise additional revenues for the respected causes lotteries benefit.”

What is MegaMillions?

MegaMillions, previously known as The Big Game (launched 1996), is one of the richest, most popular lotteries in the world. It’s based in the United States, and holds draws twice a week.

Until January 2016, the record MegaMillions jackpot of $656 million was the biggest prize ever offered in a regular lottery draw, anywhere in the world. That record has since been broken by another American lottery, Powerball.

Nonetheless, MegaMillions is still a colossus of world lotto, and has paid out three of the biggest top ten lottery prizes in history. It’s loved by players at PlayEuroLotto for its exciting prizes and reasonable prices – even after this month’s rule changes, bets will still be competitively priced.

What happens to my existing MegaMillions order?

In order to deliver our service, we need to make sure every bet we provide is in-line with the current lottery rules. As such, we have had to cancel existing single bets which don’t match the new MegaMillions rules (draws taking place on or after October 31st).

Due to these changes we had to also update some of the current syndicate numbers in active US Combi a VIP World syndicate cycles, as they would not be valid for the next draws. If you have a syndicate subscription and wish to check your syndicate numbers, please log in to your account to do so.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused by this measure. We’re also glad to tell you that our MegaMillions bets are already back with it’s new rules – so you’ll be able to play for even bigger jackpots in one of the world’s most exciting lotteries!
